Bedford Academy NEWS Academy Primary Students Visit the Bedford Institute of Oceanography Bedford Academy believes very strongly that learning extends well beyond the four walls of the classroom. Particularly with our youngest students, the Primaries, we strive to provide these children with as many "Discovery Experiences" as often as possible. We are fortunate that there are so many locations and sites that have been made available for our students to enjoy. The Bedford Institute of Oceanography is one such place. Through their much acclaimed Touch Tank Program, the children are encouraged to touch various aquatic creatures from the waters of the Atlantic. Under the direct guidance of Institute staff, the students are presented with background information on the various inhabitants of the Institute's salt water tank. This tactile contact allows the children obtain a much deeper appreciation for the different forms of sealife, some of which are considered endangered.
