Bedford Academy NEWSLETTER
February 17 2006

Dear Parents,

  • Grade Seven Ski Trip

Our Senior students will be enjoying a day on the slopes of Mount Martock on February 25th. The students will be under the supervision of Mr. Sangster with transportation being provided by the Academy bus. Here's to "spring like" weather for our Olympians in training!

  • Food Bank

Our Grade Seven's will be returning to the Metro Food Bank to participate in some more volunteer service time with Feed Nova Scotia. The student's community spirit is greatly appreciated. Our students will also present feed Nova Scotia with a cheque from the Academy families who participated in the Canada Medal Count Contest! The "Bring It Home" contest will close on Monday, and the winner will be announced on the following Monday, February 27th.

  • Pep Rally for our Bronco Basketball Teams

There will be a Pep Rally for our Girls and Boys Bronco Basketball teams next Thursday in Academy Hall at 11:45 am to celebrate and cheer on our young athletes as they prepare for the upcoming Provincial Tournaments and Bedford Classic. We are proud of our teams and wish them well!

  • Book Fair at Bedford Academy

Our annual Book Fair was once again a resounding success. Special thanks to Fair Coordinator, Jo-Ann Haley and her incredible team- Trish Trudeau, Tammy Mason, Michelle MacDonald, Linda Darrach, Lorraine Blair, Christina Lunn, Margaret Haché, Natalie Abraham, Andrea Cahill and Shirley Hall. Our Fair generated $2800.00 in books being purchased for the Academy. Thank you!

  • Our Neighbours' Parking Lot on Brookshire Court

A Bedford Academy parent found needles laying in the Credit Union Parking Lot. The Police were notified immediately and I held a "press conference" in Academy Hall with our Community Relations Officer, Bedford Academy staff and students. The children were made aware of the situation and we role-played to further reinforce the procedure our students must follow if they ever come across any needles. I feel very confident that our students know exactly what to do to ensure their safety. I suggest that parents discuss this situation with their children to further reinforce the procedures to follow. Our property was "swept" as was the property across the street and absolutely no needles were found on Bedford Academy property.

  • Olympics at the Academy

The children have really become involved with the Olympic movement throughout the school. Our Opening Ceremony literally brought tears to many parents' eyes with the color and pageantry during our Parade of Flags. We are all caught up in the excitement of cheering for our Canadian athletes as they proudly represent our country in Turin, Italy. Go Canada!
