Bedford Academy NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2009 Dear Parents, Thanksgiving Assembly Thanksgiving Assembly will be held in Academy Hall on Friday, October 2nd at 9:30am. Mr. Jacob Deng, founder of the non- profit organization, Wadeng Wings of Hope is our honoured guest. Jacob spent fifteen years living in refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia after witnessing the violent destruction of his Sudanese village, Duk Padiet. As a small child, his mother often offered encouragement and hope by saying "wadeng," which means, "Look to the future- it will be better". Academy families and friends are invited to hear Mr. Deng and learn of the success of the Brick by Brick program, which will help build a school, enabling the people of southern Sudan to create a better future through education. During his presentation, Mr. Deng will share stories of his journey, which was fuelled with his incredible determination. It is my sincere hope that Bedford Academy families contribute to this wonderful program and donate to this worthwhile children's cause. If Bedford Academy students each contribute $5.00, we will reach our goal in presenting Mr. Deng with $1000.00. Please view the Wings of Hope website, www.wadeng.org prior to the Assembly to learn more about his amazing story.
