Sackville River Association Visits Bedford Academy

Bedford Academy has a long-standing relationship with the Sackville River Association (SRA) through its River Ranger Program. Ernie Hill, Education Co coordinator for the SRA, recently visited the Academy to conduct a series of observations with our students. The pupils have been raising Atlantic Salmon in their classroom tank over the winter months. The original fish eggs were delivered to the children from a Department of Fisheries Hatchery in a conservation effort to restore the depleted salmon stocks in the Sackville River.

The eggs have successfully grown into the alvan stage of their life cycle and are now ready to be released into the Sackville River. Such community based conservation activities are an integral part of the Science curriculum at Bedford Academy, which constantly strives to promote an interest in environmental stewardship amongst its students.
